The iconic supermini, in its fifth generation, wins its first major accolade of the year by being crowned Britains Car of the Year 2020 by Carbuyer. In addition, the Clio was also named Best Small Car for 2020, dethroning the Ford Fiesta which one won the previous two years.
The panel of expert judges said ‘the new Renault Clio set a new quality benchmark for how good a small car can be’ and were impressed with the combination of comfort and great practicality alongside a stylish design, strong fuel economy and a ‘best-in-class, tech-laden interior’ to complete an ‘unbeatable all-round package’.
Carbuyer completes in-depth analysis on all cars based on what buyers want from their vehicles based off search data. They then create a scoring process on what new car buyers want most as they put the cars to the test. Practicality, reliability, running costs and safety are analysed by the team, with the aim of allowing customers to make more informed decisions.
The all-new Clio passed these tests with flying colours to scoop two awards and this is what Carbuyer editor-at-large, James Batchelor, had to say:
